CHI(Dalian)
has delivered the 18-year-old Panamax bulk carrier "PRINCESS MIA" two
days early following comprehensive repairs. The project involved 1,200 steel
plate replacements and over 300 specialized repairs across hull structures,
mechanical systems, and outfitting. A
70-member team addressed critical cargo hatch watertightness issues through
sectional construction and assembly-line workflows, completing seven hatch
cover repairs within five days. All repairs passed ultrasonic leak testing on
first attempt. The shipyard implemented its "Triple Efficiency"
protocol: Minimum 1-hour dry dock time reduction; Minimum 1-day project
acceleration; Mandatory cost-saving proposals per department. Digital
project management systems enabled 24/7 coordination between workshops. Modular
pre-installation techniques optimized sequential processes like hull painting
and boiler cleaning into parallel operations, shortening critical path
timelines. The early redelivery
secured favorable charter arrangements for the owner while demonstrating
CHI(Dalian)'s capacity in complex vessel refurbishments. Technical solutions
developed during this project have already been applied to three subsequent dry
bulk carrier repairs.
