NACKS
has delivered the "OOCL WISDOM", the world's first 24,168 TEU
methanol dual-fuel ultra-large container ship. Owned by Orient Overseas
Container Line (OOCL), a subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING Holdings, the vessel has
commenced operations.
Following
its May 8th naming ceremony, the ship completed comprehensive sea trials in
open waters. These trials successfully tested its power system, seamless
methanol/oil fuel switching, voyage efficiency, and hull stability under real
conditions.
The
vessel features a domestically integrated methanol-oil dual-fuel system,
enabling flexible fuel use based on operational needs and port regulations.
This addresses the industry challenge of balancing large cargo capacity with
low emissions. Sea trials confirmed the system's safety, stability, and
performance, qualifying the ship for intercontinental service.
Compared
to similar-sized conventional vessels, it achieves near-zero sulfur oxide
emissions and significant lifecycle carbon reduction. NACKS led the ship's
overall design, structural optimization, and power system integration,
overcoming key challenges including ultra-large hull lightweighting and safe
methanol handling. This delivery signifies NACKS has mastered full construction
capability for 24,000 TEU-class methanol dual-fuel ships.
A
sister ship is currently under construction.
